LANCASTER, S.C. – Savannah State University men's golf completed the first 36 holes of the Wolves Fall Invitational on Monday at Edgewater Golf Club, with Justin Woods turning in a standout opening day to sit tied for third individually heading into the final round.
The Tigers posted a two-round team score of 44-over par, opening the tournament at 18-over before carding a 26-over second round. Savannah State enters the final 18 holes in eighth place in the nine-team field.
Woods provided the highlight of the day for Savannah State, finishing 36 holes at 3-under par. He opened the tournament with an impressive 5-under round, putting himself among the tournament leaders, before shooting 2-over in the second round.
At 3-under overall, Woods is tied with Newberry's Fredrik Gannon for third place and sits just three strokes off the individual lead. Mount Olive's Oscar Lönnqvist and Chowan's Gabriel Ansley share the lead at 6-under par.
Lavelle Teague Jr. and Quentin Brooks finished Monday tied for 40th at 16-over. Teague opened with a 4-over round before shooting 12-over in the afternoon, while Brooks posted rounds of 7-over and 9-over.
Gauge Tailor-Simmons sits 44th at 18-over following rounds of 12-over and 6-over. Nicholas Flowers rounds out the Savannah State lineup in 46th at 26-over after shooting 17-over in the opening round and improving by eight strokes with a 9-over second round.
Savannah State's best team performance came during the opening 18 holes, when the Tigers combined for an 18-over score. They followed with a 26-over total during the second round to finish the day at 44-over.
Lenoir-Rhyne holds the team lead through 36 holes at 6-under par, seven strokes ahead of tournament host Newberry at 1-over. Mount Olive is third at 6-over, followed by Fayetteville State at 10-over and Chowan at 23-over.
Morehouse (+28) is sixth, Newberry's B team (+36) is seventh, Savannah State (+44) is eighth and Livingstone (+65) is ninth.

The Tigers return to Edgewater Golf Club on Tuesday morning for the third and final round of the Wolves Fall Invitational, hosted by Newberry College. Woods will enter the final 18 holes with an opportunity to build on his top-three position and challenge for the individual title.
