SAVANNAH, Ga.– Savannah State University men's golf sophomore standout
Justin Woods, has been named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Men's Golfer of the Month for September, the conference office announced Tuesday.
A native of San Diego, California, Woods earned the monthly honor following an impressive stretch of competition highlighted by a share of first place at the Newberry Wolves Fall Intercollegiate, held September 28-29 at Edgewater Golf Course in Lancaster, South Carolina.
The La Jolla High School product delivered one of the top performances of the tournament, finishing tied for first place at 9-under-par after three rounds of competition.
He opened the tournament with a 5-under-par 67 to establish himself among the leaders before carding a 2-over-par 74 in the second round.
Woods saved his best performance for the final round, firing a 6-under-par 66 to climb back to the top of the individual leaderboard. His final-round effort helped propel Savannah State to an eighth-place team finish in a competitive field.
The performance highlighted Woods' ability to respond under pressure and close out tournaments with strong play. His consistency, scoring ability and competitive effort helped distinguish him among the conference's top golfers during September.
Woods also represented Savannah State during the fall season at the Thomas W. Dortch, Jr. HBCU Golf Classic, held September 21-22 at Bear's Best Atlanta in Suwanee, Georgia.
The monthly recognition adds another accomplishment to the San Diego native's collegiate career and provides a bright spot for the Tigers as they continue their 2026-27 season.
The SIAC Golfer of the Month award recognizes outstanding individual performances by men's golfers throughout the conference during the designated month.
