WILSON, N.C. – The Savannah State University women's golf team completed the opening two rounds of the Barton College Fall Intercollegiate on Monday at Wilson Country Club in Wilson, North Carolina, with the Lady Tigers sitting in sixth place heading into Tuesday's final round.

Savannah State posted a team score of 59-over-par in the opening round before improving by eight strokes in the second round, shooting 51-over-par. The Lady Tigers enter the final round with a combined score of 110-over-par through 36 holes.

Junior Zell Wilson led the way for Savannah State during Monday's action, finishing the opening two rounds at 18-over-par. Wilson opened the tournament with a 2-over-par 74, the lowest round recorded by a Lady Tiger on Monday. She followed with an 85 in the second round to finish with a two-round total of 159, placing her in a tie for seventh individually.

Junior Corynn Rodney followed with a two-round total of 31-over-par (175), opening with an 82 before carding an 86 in the second round. Rodney finished Monday tied for 22nd on the individual leaderboard.

Junior Jenna Wilson showed improvement between rounds, opening with a 97 before shaving 13 strokes off her score with an 84 in the afternoon session. She completed the first two rounds at 41-over-par (181), placing 29th.

Junior Ziporah Ward also improved significantly during the second round. After shooting a 94 in the opening round, Ward recorded an 84 in the afternoon, finishing at 42-over-par (178) and in 30th place on the leaderboard.

Junior Morgan Wilkerson rounded out Savannah State's lineup with rounds of 97 and 99, finishing the opening day at 57-over-par (196) in 34th place.

Host school Barton College leads the seven-team field at 59-over-par through the first two rounds, followed by the University of Mount Olive at 65-over-par and Jefferson University at 68-over-par. UNC Pembroke and Cedarville round out the top five, with Savannah State holding sixth place.

The Lady Tigers will return to Wilson Country Club on Tuesday, October 20, for the third and final round of the Barton College Fall Intercollegiate.
