SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State's women's basketball team took the floor for the first time on Saturday afternoon in a exhibition game against Barber-Scotia in Tiger Arena.
The result was a 114-37 win for the Lady Tigers.
Savannah State controlled the contest, shooting 42.9 percent from the floor, holding a 59 to 33 rebounding edge and forcing the Sabers to make 68 turnovers.
SSU led 28-7 after one quarter of play and took a 53-14 advantage into intermission.
The Orange & Blue expanded their lead to 81-22 at the end of the third quarter and led by as many as 79 in the fourth quarter.
The Lady Tigers scored 74 of their points off turnovers, scored 66 points in the paint, had 35 second chance points, 33 fast break points and received 45 points from the reserves.
Sophomores
Jazmin Thornton and
Jayden Boykin both had a double-double for SSU. Thornton made 12 of 18 shots from the floor and finished with 27 points, 10 rebounds and eight steals while Boykin added 17 points , 10 steals and eight assists while shooting 5 of 9 from the floor and making 7 of 10 free throw attempts.
Raven Birt chipped in 17 points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists,
Ansley Hicks had 12 points, five rebounds, five assists and four steals while
Sanai Chisholm ended the game with 11 points, six assists and three steals.
Jaliyah Harper had seven points and five rebounds,
Saniya Rice had seven points,
Haylee Malcum added six points,
Makaila Johnson had six points and six rebounds and
Anita Burnett finished with four points and four rebounds.
Kira Williams failed to score but did contribute seven rebounds and five steals.
Savannah State will opened the regular season on November 17, 2025 against Trinity College of Jacksonville at 7 p.m. in Tiger Arena.
