GAME PREVIEW: Savannah State Heads To Georgia Southwestern State For Non-Conference Weekend Affair

Americus, Georgia-After taking over a week away from the floor after a convincing win over Trinity Baptist in their home opener last Thursday, Savannah State will hit the road for another non-conference road matchup against in-state foe Georgia Southwestern State. Tipoff is slated for 2:00pm on Saturday afternoon inside the Storm Dome.

SERIES HISTORY
Saturday's matchup will be the second all-time meeting between the Lady Tigers and Hurricanes. The lone meeting between the two teams came in 2023 with Georgia Southwestern taking 67-53 win over SSU in Savannah.

PREVIEWING SAVANNAH STATE
Savannah State had quite the home opener last Thursday inside Tiger Arena, earning a dominant 122-48 victory over Trinity Baptist to move their record to 2-1 on the young 2024-24 campaign. In the contest, Savannah State shot a robust 57.3% from the floor including going 43.% from beyond the arc. After struggling coming out of the gates against the Eagles in the first quarter, just leading 20-17, Savannah State turned up the intensity, outscoring TBC 102-31 for the remainder of the contest. 

SSU had six players in double figures on the night, led by Kayla Grant with a double-double effort of 20 points and 12 rebounds, while also adding five steals. K'Iya Hankerson finished with 19 points and seven boards, Amani Hamilton and Mya Byrd each had 16 points, Alayah Birch had 15, and Jaliyah Harper finished with 10.

PREVIEWING GEORGIA SOUTHWESTERN STATE
The 'Canes enter with a 1-3 overall record on the young 2024-25 season. Georgia Southwestern State has lost their last three consecutive contests, including a 90-79 home defeat to Valdosta State in their last action on Thursday evening. 

Through their first four games, GSW is scoring 70.5 points per game and allowing 76.8 ppg to their opponents. Georgia Southwestern State as a team is shooting 43.3% from the floor, including 33.3% from three point range.

The Hurricanes are paced by senior guard Ndidiamaka Ndukwe who is scoring 19.8 points per game, followed by graduate guard Destiny Garrett's 17.5 points per game, and junior forward Kelis Cameron with 11.3 points per contest.
