Hurricane Helene Impacts SSU Athletics

SAVANNAH, Ga.- The approach and aftermath of Hurricane Helene has forced the Savannah State University Athletics Department to reschedule, relocate and even postpone several sporting events.
 
Sports events effected are the Tigers football, volleyball, cross county and golf.
 
Savannah State's football game against Fort Valley State University was originally scheduled for Saturday, September 28, 2024 at Theodore A. Wright Stadium but was rescheduled for Sunday, September 29 and was played on the campus of Fort Valley State at Wildcat Stadium.
 
The SSU volleyball road matches against Clark Atlanta University that was scheduled for September 27  and Edward Waters University on October 2 have been postponed and rescheduled. The Lady Tigers will travel to Edward Waters in Jacksonville, Florida on October 8 and will play Clark Atlanta in Atlanta on Oct. 29.
 
Savannah State's men's and women's cross country teams were scheduled to run in the Brewton-Parker Invitational on Oct. 4 but that meet has been canceled. SSU's next cross country meet will be on October 12 wen they travel across the Savannah Bridge to participate in the 17th Annual Shark Invitational, hosted by University of South Carolina-Beaufort.
 
The men's and women's golf programs were scheduled to play in the North Greenville University Upstate Intercollegiate on Sept. 29 but that event has been canceled. The SSU women will play in the Flagler College Fall Bash on Oct. 20-22 in St. Augustine, Florida while the Savannah State men won't play again until 2025 when they compete in the Alabama State University Spring Invitational on February 16-17 in Montgomery, Alabama.
