SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State University Head Women's Tennis Coach
Chuck Keenan will be one of the speakers at the second annual ATA South HBCU High School Tennis Combine.
Keenan will speak to players and parents about what it takes to play on the college level during lunch on December 9, 2023 at Sugar Creek Golf and Tennis in East Atlanta. Also speaking will be former North Carolina A&T head tennis coach William Crutchfield.
The two-day event will take place December 9-10.
Keenan said that he is grateful for the opportunity to help and inspire future collegiate tennis players.
"First and foremost I'd like to thank Coach Rocky Warner for the invite and the opportunity to share my experience and perspective with the parents and players participating in the combine. I'm honored to be able to represent Savannah State and the women's tennis program in communicating what our Tiger family is about. It will be great exposure for the university and our tennis program."
Keenan has been the head tennis coach for the SSU Tiger women's tennis program since 2020. Prior to joining the Savannah State athletic staff, he served as the Community Tennis Coordinator at the Savannah Area Tennis Association. Keenan also was head tennis professional and racquet sport instructor at the Savannah Yacht Club. Coach Keenan has great perspective with regards to college tennis. His words of inspiration will spark the minds of our High School Combine players.
During his first two seasons at Savannah State, Keenan's teams won a combined two matches but in his third year (2022) as head of the program, the team produced 14 wins which included a 11-3 conference record. In that same season,
Gabrielle Benn was named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year and two others were named to the all-conference team.
