SAVANNAH, Ga.- Playing their final home matches of the regular season, Savannah State dropped a doubleheader to Fort Valley State at the SSU Tennis courts on Friday.
The Lady Tigers lost both matches to FVSU by scores of 5-2.
It was also the final home matches for Yanna Cuningham, the lone senior on the SSU roster.
In the morning match,
Trinitee Henry and Cunningham won their doubles match by default. Henry and Cunningham also won their singles matches by default.
Nyla Warner and
Katelynn Welch lost their doubles match 6-3 to Valerie Dorelein/Jordynn Middlebrooks and
Madeleine Anne Nolan and Amaia Conner lost their doubles match by the same score to Avery Harris/Samaar Davis.
Nolan lost her singles match to Dorelein 6-3, 1-0 while Warner fell in her match to Davis 6-3, 6-3. Welch lost to Harris 6-0, 6-4 and Conner fell to Middlebrooks 6-4,0-6.
In the afternoon matches, Warner and Welch teamed up to beat Dorelien and Middlebrooks in a doubles match 6-2. Conner and Cunningham lost their doubles match to Davis and Harris, 6-0.
Cunningham won her singles match by default while Warner lost to Dorelien (6-3,7-6), Conner lost to Davis (6-0,6-1), Welch lost to Harris (6-1, 6-1) and Henry dropped a 6-1,6-2 decision to Middlebrooks.
Savannah State (0-0, 0-8 SIAC) will travel to Mobile, Alabama to participate in the SIAC Roundup #2 on April 2-4.
