
ATLANTA, Ga.- Savannah State University sophomore volleyball player
Allena Norton has earned All-Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference honors for her play on the court for the 2023 season. The all conference team was announced on November 9, 2023 in a press release by the conference office.

All-SIAC honorees were voted on by conference head coaches and sports information directors.

Norton, who was the lone Savannah State player to make the list, was named to the First Team as a Middle Hitter.

Roselidah Obunaga said that Norton's stats speak for themselves and that she will only get better.
"She is an outstanding middle hitter and I am looking forward to her progress as a phenomenal athlete for her remaining two years at SSU."
During the season, Norton set a new school single-season record with 327 kills, breaking the record of 256 which was set in 2022 by
Destinee Langston.

Playing in 24 matches and 96 sets, Norton led SSU in kills (327), blocks (59), service aces (33) and points (397.5). She also had 79 digs, 5 assists and a .323 hitting average.

The 6-foot-1 Norton ranked third in the SIAC in kills and points and was fourth in hitting percentage.

Her season-high accomplishments include 22 kills and 26.5 points against Benedict College on October 6, 9 digs and 1 assist against Clark Atlanta University on Oct. 27, 8 service aces against Central State University on September 22 and 5 blocks against Middle Georgia State University on September 26.

Norton helped Savannah State to a 12-12 overall record and a 8-11 conference record.

Other SIAC volleyball superlatives were: Peggy Martin, Spring Hill College (Coach of the Year); Fatima Ramirez, Edward Waters University (Player of the Year); Jarianis Perez, Albany State University (Freshman of the Year); Myra Lopez, Allen University (Libero of the Year); Mataiya Barber, Edward Waters University (Setter of the Year); and La'Jai Wilson, Benedict College (Elite 14).
