Lady Tigers Compete In PBC Championship

ST. SIMONS, Ga. – For the first time in program history, Savannah State women's golf competed for a conference championship this past weekend.

Since the program's inception in 2000, the Lady Tigers have competed as independents watching the men's golf team compete for Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) championships.

That all changed last summer, when Savannah State women's golf was officially accepted into the Peach Belt Conference as an associate member. Over the weekend, the Lady Tigers finished sixth overall in the 2022 PBC Women's Golf Championship.

The three-round championship was played at Sea Palms Golf Course on St. Simons Island, Georgia. Columbus State won the tournament while Flagler and Lander University tied for second place. North Georgia finished fourth followed by Young Harris.

Ja'Davia McCallum led the Lady Tigers with a three round total of 251. She carded 86 in each of the first two rounds before improving to a 79 in the final round. Miracle Goolsby shot a 260 (81, 87, 92) in the tournament. Kaila Leonard, Stella Ekwalla and Kayla Harris rounded out the scoring for Savannah State.

Women's golf closes the season out on April 25-28 at the Women in Golf Championship, held in Stockbridge, Ga.
