SAVANNAH, Ga.— Savannah State women's basketball will play their final regular season game tonight in Tiger Arena to close out an historic season.

At 24-1, the 2021-2022 Lady Tigers are one of the best teams in program history.

Last week, they secured the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) East Division Title with a 13-1 conference record, and the No. 1 seed into the 2022 SIAC Championship Tournament.

They've also earned the highest poll ranking in program history, hitting No. 12 in the WBCA Coaches Poll this week. In the NCAA Division II Regional Rankings, the Lady Tigers moved into the No. 6 spot this week as well.

This year's Lady Tigers have also set a new school record for most consecutive wins to open a season, 14-0. With a win tonight, they will tie the school record for most wins in a regular season at 25.

This year's team is comparable to several stellar Division II women's basketball teams from years past.

When the school last competed in NCAA Division II (1969-2000), the 1977-1978 team finished the season 27-10, including a 25-7 regular season record. The 1990-1991 team finished 20-8, the 1991-1992 team went 21-9, and the 1992-1993 team finished 24-5. The 1993 team was runner-up in the SIAC Championship, losing to Fort Valley State in the Championship game.

Tonight, Savannah State will close out the season against Fort Valley State in Tiger Arena and celebrate Senior Night and Homecoming 2.0.

In the team's first meeting this season, on Jan. 15, the Lady Tigers beat Fort Valley State 88-50 in Fort Valley, Georgia.

Prior to the game, Savannah State Athletics will honor seniors, Ta'Kyla Austin, LeAndrea Gillis, Azhana Maxwell and Shekinah Howard.
