Bowles, Allen Named SIAC Players Of The Week

ATLANTA, Ga. – Savannah State guards Nyla Allen and Eleik Bowles were named the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Players of the week for women's and men's basketball, according to a press release from the conference office on Tuesday.
 
Allen, a second-year point guard, led the Lady Tigers to two victories last week. In last Monday's SIAC game against Central State, Allen scored a career-high 28 points en route to an 89-72 win.
 
The starting guard went 8-for-11 from the floor and recorded 8 assists and 3 steals. In last Saturday's non-conference, 74-63, win against Anderson University, Allen led the field with 27 points, going 9-for-16 from the field.
 
Bowles led Savannah State in all three games last week. In a close loss to Central State on Monday, he put up 18 points. In a mid-week, 94-83, win against Flagler, he put up a career-high 40 points. He was 16-for-20 from the field, 5-for-5 from deep, and 3-for-5 from the charity strip. Against Clayton State last Saturday, Bowles led the Tigers with 12 points.
 
Allen and Bowles lead the scoring for each of their teams. Allen is averaging 17.5 points a game while Bowles is putting up 16.9 in each outing.
 
The Lady Tigers are 6-0, 3-0 on the season while the Tigers are 4-3, 2-1 overall. The women lead the SIAC East Division while the men sit in second place in the standings.
