Savannah, Ga. – No. 20 Savannah State women's basketball opened their season with four road games and four road wins.
 
Today, they play their first home game of the young season against non-conference opponent Anderson University. This will be the first matchup between the two programs.
 
The Lady Tigers moved up to the No. 20 spot in the WBCA Coaches Poll this week and received 10 votes in the D2SIDA Media Poll. Last season, SSU earned the highest rankings in program history after a dominating 27-3 season and 14-1 conference mark.
 
LAST GAME
Savannah State finished their season-opening, four-game road swing with a dominating win over Central State on Monday, picking up their second Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) victory. SSU shot 50% from the floor against Central and were led by point guard Nyla Allen who put in a career-high 28 points. Junior Amari Heard had a career-high 26 points as well.  

PLAYER OUTLOOK
In the opening four games of the young season, the veterans have stepped up for Savannah State. #23 Amari Heard leads the shooting, averaging 15.3 points a game. #20 Nyla Allen is putting away 14.8 points a game and #22 Bria Gibbs is averaging 14.0 points a game. Mia Goolsby (12.7 p/g) has also had a strong start. On defense, Gibbs leads the team in rebounding, pulling down 9.8 rebounds. She's recorded two double-doubles so far this season.  
 
OPPONENT SCOUTING REPORT
Anderson—an NCAA Division II and South Atlantic Conference (SAC) member— is 4-3 on the season. They picked up wins against Flagler, Mount Olive, Southern Wesleyan, and Belmont Abbey while dropping games to Clayton State, Young Harris, and Columbus State. They are led by sophomore forward #4 Diamond McDowell (11.1 p/g) and senior guard #33 Jayln Spurlin (11.1 p/g) on offense. McDowell also leads the defense, averaging 8.4 rebounds an outing.
