Savannah, Ga. –Savannah State men's basketball team are off to a warm start this season with two wins and two losses.

Coming off a three-game road swing, the Tigers host Flagler on Educators Appreciation Night in Tiger Arena tonight. They head to Morrow, Georgia on Saturday for another non-conference game against Clayton State before returning to Tiger Arena for a big Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) game against Miles on Monday.

LAST GAME
Savannah State battled Central State to the very end of an SIAC game on Monday in Ohio. The Tigers fell 66-70. In the final minutes, Central State held onto a fragile lead behind some solid free-throw shooting. Za'Khari Cobb drained a couple from the charity stripe to get the Tigers within three of Central's lead with 12 seconds left. Zion Davis scored a steal on the home team's next possession, giving SSU a shot. But a costly SSU turnover sealed up the final score.

PLAYER OUTLOOK
In the opening four games of the young season, Savannah State has seen good production from the veterans with some key effort from a couple of newcomers. #30 Eleik Bowles leads the scoring, averaging 14.0 points a game. #2 Ayjay Plain (8.3 p/g), Cobb (7.3 p/g) and #12 Larson Ashford (6.0 p/g) have all been key starters. Coming off the bench, freshman #10 Zion Davis is averaging 6.8 points/game while #15 Chancellor Wilson (5.5 p/g) has also been productive.

LAST GAME VS. FLAGLER
Savannah State last faced Flagler on Nov. 22 in St. Augustine, Florida. The NCAA Division II, Peach Belt Conference (PBC) member came out strong, shooting over 50% from the field in the first half. The Tigers struggled to keep pace with a dismal 28% shooting clip to open that didn't improve much in the second half. Flagler outscored SSU by nearly 20 points in both halves for an 86-50 win.

OPPONENT SCOUTING REPORT
Flagler is 4-3 on the season, playing only non-conference games. Their losses came to Division II powerhouses Florida Southern, Embry-Riddle and Northwest Missouri State. They picked up big wins against Southern Wesleyan and Anderson, but barely beat Spring Hill. They are led by #24 Bryant Malik who's averaging 19.8 points a game. Malik led the scoring against Savannah State, putting away 15. #4 Jaylen Lemons is right behind Malik with 16.4 points a game.
