Women's Cross Country

Chance Repeats SIAC Cross Country Title Win

Macon, Ga. – Kayla Chance defended her title on Friday.
 
The senior won her second Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Women's Cross Country Championship Title, repeating last year's championship run.
 
Chance ran a 19:32.23, beating Benedict's Purity Kibet (19:36.43) by four seconds and besting a field of 86 runners to claim the individual title in the women's 5-kilometer race.
 
Last year, Chance won the same title with a time of 19:29.0 for Savannah State's first SIAC championship since rejoining the conference in 2019.
 
She was also named the 2022 SIAC Women's Cross Country Runner Of The Year, following another incredible season—her second time winning the award.
 
The Lady Tigers finished fourth overall at the championship with a team score of 113. Behind Chance, Sky Buie-Cox ran a 21:45.80 for a 10th place finish. Simone Johnson was just behind her in 11th place with a time of 21:50.27. Newcomer Lilly Langsten ran a 24:46.95 to finish 32nd followed by Kennedi Hall (29:21.61).
 
Benedict claimed the team title with a score of 26 after six of their seven runners finished in the top 20. Albany State (69) finished second overall, followed by Spring Hill (72).
 
Central State (123) finished fifth, followed by Clark Atlanta (147), Miles (199), Kentucky State (199), Tuskegee (225), Edward Waters (269), Lane (299), Allen (306) and Fort Valley State (326).
 
The Savannah State men's cross country team finished sixth overall with a team score of 185. Erik Roberts led the Tigers with a time of 30:23.29, finishing 22nd. Miles Corey ran a 31:47.95 to finish 30th in the field of 87 runners.
 
Newcomer Joseph Hale was just behind with a 31:59.56, followed by Nyzaveon Thompson (37:39.33), Alex Loyd (37:47.74) and Deashaun Logan (38:06.59).
Morehouse (31) won the SIAC Title followed by Benedict (49), Central State (92), Spring Hill (104), and Clark Atlanta (138).
 
Kentucky State finished (202) seventh, followed by Edward Waters (218), Fort Valley State (237), Tuskegee (272), Miles (280), Lane (312), LeMoyne-Owen (346), and Allen (368).
 
The 2022 Cricket SIAC Cross Country Championship was held at the Georgia Premier Cross Country Course at Middle Georgia State University in Macon, Georgia Friday morning.
