SAVANNAH, Ga – Savannah State baseball opens the 2020 season and a new era today at 2 p.m. on Tiger Field.

The Tigers host a non-conference doubleheader with the Brewton-Parker Barons to open their first season of competition back in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) and NCAA Division II.

All Savannah State home baseball games are free and open to the public. The Tigers will also celebrate Latin Night on Tuesday. The Latin Chicks Food Truck will be on site from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Click here for the full menu.

Savannah State will field 18 returners and 15 newcomers on its 33-man roster this year. They return some of their best hitters from a successful 2019 season—their final year of competition in NCAA Division I and the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC).

At the plate, senior's Joey Roberson, Aaron Straker, Luis Lamarche and Turner Davis will lead the Tigers. From the mound, SSU will look to a 13-man bullpen to mount a strong defense this season.

At the top are starting pitchers Luis Torries-Lopez, Enrico Peele, and Luis Lopez-Valdez. In relief, the Tigers will count on lefty Ricky McCleod Jr. and Alfred Carucci.

Brewton-Parker opened their season at the end of January with a three-game series against West Virginia Tech. The Barons picked up two wins against the Golden Bears, beating them 8-6 and 8-4.
