SAVANNAH, Ga – The Savannah State men's and women's basketball teams will host Clark Atlanta University in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) doubleheader on Feb. 20 in Tiger Arena.

Both Savannah State teams are fighting for a better seed in the SIAC East Division as they head into the final few weeks of regular season action and the final two games of the regular season.

Savannah State men's and women's basketball teams close out the regular season this Saturday with a SIAC doubleheader against Fort Valley State. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. in Tiger Arena.

SCOUTING REPORT
GAME ONE

The Savannah State women's basketball head into the final two games of the regular season in third place in the SIAC East Division. They dropped out of second after falling to No. 1 Benedict on Monday. Two wins in the final games has the potential to land them as the No. 2 seed going into the SIAC Basketball Championship the first week of March.

In their last meeting with Clark Atlanta—on Jan. 20 in Atlanta—the Lady Tigers beat the Panthers 77-74. Clark Atlanta is fifth in the SIAC East Division.

The Lady Tigers have the SIAC's top scorer and top rebounder. They are also the top scoring offense in the SIAC currently, averaging 75.2 points a game. Leading the team and leading the SIAC is sophomore guard Le'Andrea Gillis, who's averaging 19.4 points a game. Alexus Bryant leads the conference and the team in rebounding percentage, averaging 9.8 boards a game.

The Lady Tigers scoring effort is deep despite having a shallow bench this season, due to injuries. Trailing Gillis, Azhana Maxwell is averaging 14.0 points a game, followed by Ta'Kyla Austin (13.4) and Robbi Allen (10.9). Freshman Amari Heard is averaging 8.7 points a game and 7.8 rebounds. In her debut season, she's had four double-doubles.

GAME TWO

Despite a rough start to the season, Savannah State men's basketball is fighting for the No. 3 seed into the SIAC Tournament in the final two games of the regular season.

The Tigers earned their ninth conference win on Monday, edging out Benedict 64-62 in Columbia, S.C. In their penultimate game of the regular season, they face the 11-6 No. 2 Clark Atlanta team, who's currently fighting it out for the No. 1 seed in the SIAC East with the 11-5 Albany State.

On Jan. 20, Savannah State upset Clark Atlanta in Atlanta, beating the Panthers 72-59 in the team's first matchup this season.

Freshman Guard Marcus Scott has been Savannah State's clutch player in the last few games, hitting buzzer beaters to win games, draining a host of 3-pointers to spread out the advantage, and being the team's go-to shooter.

Scott—"Media Man" as his teammates call him—is averaging 16.1 points a game and leads the team with the most games played (20) and the most points scored (322). He also leads in 3-point percentage (42%), field goal percentage (43%), steals (27) and free-throw percentage (82%).

Adrian Bonds—known as Rico—still leads the team in scoring this season, averaging 17.6 points a game. The Tigers are deep with good scorers. Trey DeLoach is averaging 11.3 points a game and Zion Williams is averaging 10.9 points a game. Andrew Okorodudu leads on defense, averaging 7.9 a game. As a team, Savannah State leads the SIAC in 3-point field goals made, averaging 10.1 a game.

The Panthers are a tough squad this season though and the Tigers will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. They are led by a trio of good scorers. Thomas Romaine is averaging 16.4 points a game, followed by Tyler Singleton (14.6) and Calvin White (12.0).
