SAVANNAH, Ga – The Savannah State men's and women's basketball teams will host Albany State University in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) doubleheader on Monday, Feb. 10.

Both teams are fighting for a better seed in the SIAC East Division as they head into the final few weeks of regular season action.

SCOUTING REPORT
GAME ONE

The Savannah State women's basketball team comes into Monday's game on a two-game winning streak. They bested Albany State last Saturday in Albany, 70-52. In their last home game, they beat Paine College 81-61.

The Lady Tigers are in third place in the SIAC East with six conference wins. A win on Monday gives them a chance to move into second place, currently occupied by Fort Valley State—who has seven conference wins, but also lost to Savannah State earlier this season.

Savannah State has the top scoring offense in the SIAC, averaging 76.7 points a game. They also have the top scorer and top rebounder in the SIAC. Le'Andrea Gillis leads the entire conference in scoring, averaging 19.8 points a game. Alexus Bryant leads the conference in rebounds, averaging 9.8 a game.

The Lady Tigers scoring effort is deep. Just behind Gillis in scoring averages is Azhana Maxwell (14.5 p/g), Ta'Kyla Austin (13.8 p/g), Robbi Allen (10.0 p/g) and freshman Amari Heard (9.3 p/g).

Albany State enters Monday's game having lost four of their last five games. They are currently last in the SIAC East Division. They are led in scoring by No. 11 Alexandria James (16.5 p/g) and No. 13 Ciera Norman (14.7 p/g).

GAME TWO

Savannah State men's basketball will look to parlay a big win on Saturday against Morehouse into their seventh conference win on Monday. But they are up against the best team in the SIAC East Division in Albany State.

The Tigers are fighting for third place in the standings behind Morehouse and Benedict, who each have seven conference wins. All teams trail the 10-3 Golden Rams.

When Savannah State is hot though, they're hot. They currently lead the conference in 3-point field goals made, averaging 10.1 a game.

The Tigers have the third best scoring offense in the league, averaging 76 points a game. But accuracy can be an issue. They are near the bottom of the standings in field goal percentage and 3-point percentage.

Savannah State has a multitude of offensive weapons this season. Leading the pack is Adrian Bonds (18.4 p/g—third in the SIAC in scoring), Marcus Scott (15.7 p/g), Trey DeLoach (11.6 p/g) and Zion Williams (11.0 p/g).

In their 73-66 win over Morehouse on Saturday, the Tigers had the best 3-point shooting night of the season, shooting 53% from beyond the arc.

While the Golden Rams aren't the top scoring offense in the league—they're 13th actually—they do have the highest field goal percentage at 47%. Albany State hits the shots they make and don't have to make a lot to get the win. They're averaging bout 70 points per game this season and they don't win games by large margins—beating most of their opponents by less than a 10-point spread.

Albany State is led by No. 20 Randy McClure (16.0 p/g) and No. 4 Mario Young (11.1) in the stats, but they are deep as well in offensive weapons and powerful on defense. They're second in the SIAC in steals and lead in offensive rebounds.
