SAVANNAH, Ga – The Savannah State men's and women's basketball host a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) doubleheader this Saturday against Benedict College in Tiger Arena.
Both the men's and women's teams are looking to add to their recent conference success with the first home doubleheader of the new year.
The games are a scheduled Blue Out and fans are asked to wear blue to both games.

SCOUTING REPORT
GAME ONE
Saturday's opening game is a matchup of the two best scorners in the SIAC.

Savannah State's
Le'Andrea Gillis and Benedict's Ay'Anna Bey lead the conference in scoring this season. Gillis—who was named this week's SIAC Player of the Week—has the edge with 21.3 points per game while Bey is averaging 17.3 points a game.

The Lady Tigers come into Saturday's matchup on a three-game winning streak. They picked up two key SIAC victories last week, beating Fort Valley State, 78-65, and Clark Atlanta, 77-74.

The Lady Tigers are ranked third in the SIAC East Division, trailing the 5-4 Paine College and 7-1 Benedict College. They play Paine this coming Monday in Tiger Arena at 5:30 p.m.

Savannah State boasts the top scoring offense in the SIAC, averaging 78.0 points per game. Other than Gillis, three other Lady Tigers are averaging double figures in each outing this season. Sophomore
Azhana Maxwell is putting up 14.8 a game, while newcomer
Ta'Kyla Austin is averaging 14.2 a game.

With only seven games under her belt this year,
Robbi Allen has tipped back into the top percentage in scoring for the Lady Tigers during the last three games. She's averaging 10.1 point a game, shooting 40.5% from the field.

Savannah State faces the best statistical team in the conference in Benedict College. The 8-1 Benedict Tigers are averaging 74.1 points a game this season. (Both teams are shooting 32% from the field this season.)

The Benedict Tigers are led by a trio of top-notch scorers. Behind Bey is Wykira Kelly-Johnson, who is averaging 14.5 points a game and Ayanna Armstead, who is putting up 10.9.

GAME TWO
Savannah State men's basketball broke a six-game losing streak last week with two pivotal SIAC wins.

The Tigers beat Fort Valley State, 82-77, and the top-ranked Clark Atlanta, 72-59 to earn only their second and third wins of the season.

After a rough start to the season, Savannah State is finding a rhythm on the court and in their offensive effort as of late. As a team, they're averaging 76.2 points a game and have the second highest scoring offense in the SIAC currently.

SSU is led this season by
Adrian Bonds, who's averaging 19.7 points a game and managing a 44% clip from the field. He's ranked third in the SIAC in scoring.
Marcus Scott is having a strong freshman year, averaging 13.4 points a game, and shooting 40% from the field. Scott was named the SIAC Newcomer of the Week in mid-December.

The Tigers are getting some help on offense from key late additions over the winter break.
Trey DeLoach has played in only four games, but he's averaging 13.4 points a game.
Zion Williams as played in seven games, and his averaging 12.1 points a game.

The Benedict Tigers enter Saturday's game on a two-game SIAC losing streak, falling to Morehouse College and Albany State recently. Currently they're ranked just ahead of SSU with four conference wins. Â

Benedict is led by a trio of players in scoring. Deon Joyner is averaging 14.2 points a game; Tajh Green is averaging 12.5 and Joseph Staton is putting away 12.3. They are shooting 44% from the field as a team.
