SAVANNAH, Ga. – No. 13 Savannah State University women's basketball team (4-23) starts the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament Monday at 11 a.m. against No. 4 Norfolk State University (18-10) in Scope Arena.
 
Junior forward Kaylee Allen leads the Lady Tigers with 17.8 points per game, which ranks second in the MEAC, and averages 5.9 rebounds.  The Cincinnati, Ohio native averages 21.4 points, which leads the conference, and 7.4 rebounds, which ranks 10^th, in the MEAC in conference play. 
 
Freshman center Alexxus Sowell leads the team with 8.0 rebounds per game, which ranks sixth in the MEAC and leads with 2.3 blocks per game, which ranks second in the conference and ranks 28^th in the National Collegiate Athletic Association.  In conference play, Sowell averages 8.5 rebounds, which ranks eighth in the MEAC, and is second in the conference with 3.1 blocks.
 
The Spartans have won six of the last seven games, but fell to Hampton University 70-56 the last time out.  NSU is led by Kayla Roberts with 14.1 points per game and with 7.9 rebounds per game, Raven Russell with 11.0 points per game and 5.1 rebounds and Alexys Long with 10.6 points per game.
 
The winner moves on to face the winner of No. 5 Howard University and No. 12 Florida A&M University Thursday at 2 p.m.
