Alante Fenner scored 25 points and
Javaris Jenkins added 23 to lead Savannah State to a 85-75 win over North Carolina Central.

The Tiger Arena crowd of 1,990 saw the Tigers celebrate senior night with a big win over NCCU to improve to 14-16 overall and 11-4 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

It was the final home game for seniors Fenner, Jenkins,
Maricus Glenn,
Austin Dasent and
Jahir Cabeza. Each senior started the game and had at least three points and four rebounds.

The victory snapped the Tigers three-game losing skid as well as improved Savannah State's home conference record this season to a perfect 8-0.

SSU led by four early in the second period but scored 11 straight points to start a 22-5 run to push their advantage to 66-45 with 11:13 remaining. The run started with consecutive 3-pointers by Jenkins, Dasent and
Ty'lik Evans followed by a layup by Cabeza.

North Carolina Central kept chipping away and whittled their deficit down to single digits on several occasions.

Down 79-68 with two minutes left, the Eagles got a 3-pointer from CJ Wiggins and a layup from Raekwon Harney to pull within 79-73 with 1:27 showing.

Down the stretch, the Tigers made six of seven free throw attempts to preserve the victory.

Dasent contributed 11 points and seven rebounds for Savannah State while Evans came off the bench to score nine points and grab a team-high eight rebounds and get a game-high four steals.

The Tigers shot 39.4 percent from the floor, 30.8 percent of their 3-pointers and made 21 of 24 free throw attempts.

SSU out-rebounded the Eagles 44 to 40.

In the first half, the Tigers held a 25-24 edge but a 10-2 spurt gave them some breathing room at 35-26 with  four and a half minutes on the clock.

North Carolina Central battled to get within one but a 3-pointer at the buzzer sent the Tigers into intermission with a 42-38 lead.

The Eagles (14-15, 8-7 MEAC) were led by Larry McKnight and Raasean Davis who had 13 points apiece.

NCCU shot 45.1 percent from the floor, 20 percent from beyond the arc and 50 percent from the charity stripe.
