Savannah, Ga. -- · Savannah State University men's basketball will open the 2018-19 season against Texas A&M in College Station, Tex. on Nov. 7 at 9:30 p.m.
Tiger Bites
· The last time SSU played Texas A&M was back in Dec. of 2017. It was the second time the Tigers and Aggies have met. Texas A&M leads the series, 2-0.
· SSU ended the 2017-18 season as the national leader in 3-pointers per game averaging 12.2 and three point attempts with 1,304. The Tigers were in the top 10 nationally in: Scoring offense (2nd) averaging 86.1 ppg; total 3-pointers made per game (2nd) with 391; steals per game (4th) averaging 9.4; total steals (5th) with 301; and turnovers forced (3rd) averaging 18.00.

SIGHTSEEING
The schedule features teams from eight Division I conferences which include the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, Big Ten, Summit, Southeastern, Big South, Southwestern Athletic, Mid-American and Ohio Valley.
LONGEVITY
Horace Broadnax is in his 14th year as head coach of the Tigers, which ties Theodore "Ted" Wright who was also the Tigers head coach for 14 seasons.
DIVERSE ROSTER
The SSU roster has players from six different states (Georgia, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, South Carolina and Mississippi) as well as the United States Virgin Islands.
ROSTER OVERHAUL
Horace Broadnax overhauled his roster from last season and has added eight new players.
GOOD COMPANY
Horace Broadnax is only one of three SSU coaches to have won at least 100 games. The other two are Theodore Wright and Russell Ellington. Wright and Ellington are in the SSU Athletic Hall of Fame
STAFF STABILITY
SSU assistant coaches Clyde Wormley, Pat Hardy and Joe Flegler all return to the Tiger bench.
HOME SWEET HOME
SSU had a 10-2 home record last year while playing at Tiger Arena.
TRANSFER
Eight members of the team played at a junior college before coming to SSU.
SSU Division I
Savannah State University made the decision to move from Division II to Division I in 1998, while opting to leave the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and become independent of conference affiliation. SSU played their first season as a Division I institution in 2002 when the NCAA granted full membership. The Tigers are currently playing as members of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
GOING BACK TO D-II
In April 2017, the Savannah State administration made the decision to move SSU athletics from Division I to Division II. SSU began the three-year transitional period in July of 2018. This is the final season the Tigers will play as members of the MEAC.
