DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Savannah State University cheerleading team missed out on advancing to the finals with a ninth place finish at the National Cheerleading Association and National Dance Alliance Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championship in the Intermediate Small Coed 1.
The top eight teams advanced to the finals and Savannah State finished ninth with a score of 89.93.
Savannah State had a raw score of 90.93, good enough for eighth place to advance, but lost a point due to a building fall deduction.
This year, the championship hosted 335 participating teams. Fourteen additional teams competed in the same division as SSU from the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) and the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) that had between one and four males.
The 14 other teams competing in the division were the University of Northern Colorado, Stetson University, Kent State University, University at Buffalo, Oral Roberts University, Florida Atlantic University, University of Southern Mississippi, Oakland University, Illinois State University, Kennesaw State University, University of Missouri Kansas City, Florida International University, University of North Texas and Southern Methodist University.
