NORFOLK, Va. – In their third year competing in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Cheerleading Championship, the Savannah State cheerleading squad garnered their best finish yet with fourth place honors.
The Tigers introduced a more complicated routine then they have performed in other competitions this year, finishing with a team score of 261.9. Tiger All-Star
Desiree Mays finished in fifth with a score of 156 in the individual scoring.
Morgan State University won their third consecutive MEAC Cheer Championship with a team score of 292. Howard University finished in second with a 274.2, followed by Hampton in third with a score of 261.9.
North Carolina A&T finished in fifth place with a team score of 247.4. Delaware State placed sixth with a 246.4. Norfolk State rounded out the field in seventh place with a score of 220.8. Amber Roberson of Morgan State won the individual All-Stars battle with a score of 185.
The Tigers closed out a 2012-13 season that saw the cheerleaders compete in three events, the most in school history.
SSU competed in the Jamfest Jam-Bash Series in early February, and then made history with the school's first ever appearance at Cheersport Nationals. SSU was only the sixth Historical Black College and University (HBCU) to participate in Cheersport, the largest cheerleading competition in the nation.
