PRESEASON HONORS
Dexter McClanahan was named the preseason MEAC all-conference second team.

MOVING BACK DOWN
In April 2017, the Savannah State administration made the decision to move SSU athletics from Division I to Division II. The move will become effective following the 2018-19 season

TAIL OF THE TAPE
Ty'Lik Evans is the shortest player on the roster at 5-foot-7 while Marcus Glenn is the tallest at 6-foot-10.

PERCENTAGE POINTS
SSU lost 7 players from the 2016-17 squad. Those players made up 44 percent of the scoring and 35 percent of the rebounds.

TOUGH SCHEDULE

CONFERENCE CLASH—SSU will play teams from 11 different Division I conferences (MEAC, American, Southern, Sun Belt, Ohio Valley, SWAC, Big 12, Colonial, Southeastern, Atlantic Coast and Big 10

SIGHT SEEING—SSU will play games in 12 different states this season (Ohio, Louisiana, Tennessee, Texas, Kansas, Georgia, Virginia, Michigan, Maryland, Delaware, Florida and South Carolina).

GOOD MIXTURE- SSU's roster has a good mixture of veterans and newcomers. The Tigers roster has ten veterans  to go with six newcomers.

SSU Division I
Savannah State University made the decision to move from Division II to Division I in 1998, while opting to leave the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and become independent of conference affiliation. SSU played their first season as a Division I institution in 2002 when the NCAA granted full membership. The Tigers are currently playing as members of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

MEMORY LANE
