Savannah, Ga. -- Savannah State men's basketball opens the season against the University of Cincinnati, Friday at noon at BB&T Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio. This is the second time the Tigers and Bearcats will meet. The first was in 2010 when Cincinnati defeated SSU, 54-41 in Ohio.

Tiger Bites
- The Tigers are 1-1 in preseason exhibition games headed in to Saturday's season opener. SSU defeated Paine College (105-91) then fell to Fort Valley (103-89). The Tigers were led by Alante Fenner with 29 pts. against Paine and newcomer Juwan Grant with 17 against Fort Valley.

- SSU is 24-22 in season openers since 1964.The Tigers are 9-3 in season openers in the Broadnax Era.

NATIONAL RANKING
The Tigers finished the 2016-17 season as the #1 three-point shooting team in the country after averaging 13.5 threes per game. 

DEAN OF COACHES
Horace Broadnax is the Dean of MEAC basketball coaches. He is in his 13th year at the helm of the SSU program.

200 CLUB
Horace Broadnax is two wins away from reaching 200 wins for his career.

PRESEASON HONORS
Dexter McClanahan was named the preseason MEAC All-Conference Second Team

MOVING BACK DOWN
In April 2017, the Savannah State administration made the decision to move SSU athletics from Division I to Division II. 

TAIL OF THE TAPE
Ty'Lik Evans is the shortest player on the roster at 5-foot-7 while Marcus Glenn is the tallest at 6-foot-10.

WELCOME BACK
Javaris Jenkins, Alante Fenner and Khalen Pinkett return to the team after not being a part of the program last season.

HOME COURT SUCCESS
For the past 11 seasons, SSU has had a winning record when playing in Tiger Arena.

TOUGH SCHEDULE
SSU's non-conference schedule features five teams that are ranked in the AP Top 25 poll (Michigan State, Wichita State, Cincinnati, Baylor and Texas A&M)

CONFERENCE CLASH
SSU will play teams from 11 different Division I conferences (MEAC, American, Southern, Sun Belt, Ohio Valley, SWAC, Big 12, Colonial, Southeastern, Atlantic Coast and Big 10).

SIGHT SEEING
SSU will play games in 12 different states this season (Ohio, Louisiana, Tennessee, Texas, Kansas, Georgia, Virginia, Michigan, Maryland, Delaware, Florida and South Carolina).

PERCENTAGE POINTS
SSU lost seven players from the 2016-17 squad. Those players made up 44 percent of the scoring and 35 percent of the rebounds.

GOOD MIXTURE
SSU's roster has a good mixture of veterans and newcomers. The Tigers roster has ten veterans  to go with six newcomers.

ROAD TRIP
SSU's shortest road trip this year is at Georgia Southern (54.9 miles) while the longest is at Texas Tech (1,374.3 miles)

MEMORY LANE
50 years ago the 1967-68 SSU team posted a 19-9 record, averaged 97.1 points and game and had five players finish the year averaging in double figures in scoring. The team scored at least 102 points in 13 games.
