Football | 11/21/2017 4:56:00 PM

NORFOLK, Va.- Savannah State quarterback D'Vonn Gibbons has been selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week, following his performance in the Tigers season ending win over South Carolina State on November 18.

It was the first time SSU defeated the Bulldogs since 2001.

Gibbons completed 13 of 23 passes for a career-high 267 yards and two touchdowns.

His 90 yard touchdown pass to tight end Paris Baker in the first quarter was the longest at SSU since Antonio Bostick threw a 99 yard touchdown pass to Brian Lackey in 2011 against North Carolina Central.

During the contest, Gibbons completed passes of 90, 51 and 47 yards.

Gibbons ends the season with 1,259 passing yards and ten touchdowns. He is the first SSU quarterback to pass for at least 1,000 yards and throw for at least ten touchdowns in a season since Bostick did it in 2013 with 1,397 yards and ten touchdowns.
