NORFOLK, Va.- Nineteen Savannah State football players earned All-Academic honors for their success in the classroom during the 2016-17 academic year.
MEAC sophomore, junior and senior student-athletes with a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average, as well as transfer student-athletes who have been in residence at the institution for at least one year, are eligible for All-Academic accolades.
Representing Savannah State were Awni Alshafei, Carswell Burns,
Ellison Burns III, Tyorrin Collins, David Cooper, Kendarius Dukes,
Daniel Foster,
David Handler, Derrick Harvey,
Anthony Hunt, Octavious James,
James Livingston, Brandon Long, Giovanni Lugo, Maarquez Martin, Jawara Middleton,
Johvonte Singleton, Monroe Thornton and
Juwuan Tolbert.
A total of 150 student-athletes from the conference's 13 institutions were selected.
Of those selected, Bethune-Cookman (22) had the most followed by Delaware State (20) and SSU (19). Florida A&M and South Carolina State both had 18 while North Carolina A&T had 17 and Howard and North Carolina Central both had 11. Rounding out the remaining schools were Morgan State and Norfolk State with nine each and Hampton who had five.
