This will be the first meeting between the two ball clubs.
Junior center
Tiyonda Davis was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday as she averaged 9.5 rebounds per game, 5.5 points per game, 2.5 blocks per game and 0.5 steals per game. Davis recorded a season-high 13 rebounds and five blocks at Alabama State last Saturday.
The 13 rebounds moved Davis into fourth place in school history in the Division I era. On the season, Davis leads the team with 7.2 rebounds per game and 17 blocks. The 17 blocks ranks first in the MEAC and 38
th in the National Collegiate Athletic Association, while her 2.83 blocks per game also ranks first in the MEAC and 15
th in the NCAA.
After six games, the Lady Tigers are shooting .348 (115-for-330) from the floor, including shooting .287 (25-for-87) from the 3-point line. SSU is averaging 51.3 points per game, 36.5 rebounds per game and has recorded 57 assists, 60 steals and 25 blocks.
Junior guard
Kenyata Hendrix leads the Lady Tigers with 12.2 points per game, which ranks seventh in the MEAC, and has recorded a .357 (25-for-70) shooting from the floor, including shooting .289 (11-for-38) from the 3-point line. Hendrix is shooting .750 (12-for-16) from the free throw line and is averaging 3.0 rebounds per game, 0.5 blocks per game and 0.7 steals per game. The Carrollton, Ga., native ranks 10
th in school history with 603 points in the Division I era and third in school history with 92 made 3-pointers.
The last time out, the Lady Tigers snapped a four-game losing streak as SSU defeated Alabama State 60-49 in Montgomery, Ala., to begin a six-game roadstand. Nine Lady Tigers scored in the contest, led by Hendrix with 14 points, followed by sophomore guard
Lauryn Fields with 11 and junior guard
Rhianna Warren with nine points.
Rutgers has won the last five games and six of the last seven games and is 2-0 on the current five-game homestand with wins over Arkansas (60-40) Sunday and Iona (58-33) Wednesday.
The Scarlet Knights are led by Kahleah Copper with 17.6 poitns per game and with 7.0 rebounds per game, while Tyler Scaife is adding 15.4 poitns per game and 3.0 rebounds per game. Ariel Butts is contributing with 4.9 points per game and 5.9 rebounds per game.
As a team, Rutgers is shooting .467 (230-for-492), including .384 (43-for-112) beyond the 3-point line. The Scarlet Knights are averaging 60.0 points per game and 34.7 rebounds per game with 123 assists, 77 steals and 47 blocks.
The Lady Tigers continue the roadstand with a trip to Jacksonville, Ala., to face Jacksonville State Tuesday at 7:30 ET.
