Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C.- Savannah State held North Carolina A&T without a field goal the final six minutes of the game but the Tigers could not pull off their first road win of the season in a 68-47 loss to the Aggies.
It was the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opener for Savannah State.
The loss drops the Tigers to 4-11 overall and 0-1 in the MEAC.
SSU led 6-3 early in the game but the Aggies were able to tie the score.
A jumper by
Terel Hall gave Savannah State a 9-8 leads but A&T answered with a 15-2 run to go ahead 23-11 with just over six minutes left in the first period.
A&T led 26-16 at the break.
The Aggies started the second half with a 22-5 run to put the game out of hand to increase their advantage to 48-21 with 11:56 remaining.
A&T's last field goal of the contest game on a 3-pointer by Arturs Bremers with 6:08 left and a pair of free throws by Bremers at the 4:49 mark gave the home team a 65-37 cushion, their largest of the game.
The Tigers trailed by 25 with less than two minutes left but finished the game with a pair of free throws by Hall and a game-ending dunk by
Brian Pearson.
The crowd of 932 in the Corbett Sports Center saw Savannah State shoot 34.5 percent from the field and only make 2 of 13 of their 3-point attempts.
SSU was also out-rebounded 42 to 23.
Hall and
Saadiq Muhammad each had 10 points for the Tigers.
Khalen Pinkett had seven points and four steals while Alante Feener had a team-high six rebounds.
A&T (4-13, 1-2) was led by Bruce Beckford's 22 points and 12 rebounds.
The Aggies shot 47.6 percent from the floor and made 47.4 percent of their 3-point attempts.
