Pavlovic Wins The First Court; SSU Falls To S.C. State


ORANGEBURG, S.C. – A day after celebrating senior day in Savannah, Andrea Pavlovic played the first court into a tie-breaking win in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) match against South Carolina State on Tuesday.

Pavlovic defeated Olesksandra Filippova 7-5 in the opening set. Filippova fired back, taking the second set 6-4 to force a tie-breaker. Pavlovic came out victorious in the match with a 10-5 win in the tie-breaker, for her sixth win in singles competition this year.

The Lady Tigers, however, were defeated overall by the Lady Bulldogs, falling 1-5. Double's competition was not played due to inclement weather.

In the second court, Angela Bonilla fell to Kiara Dohnalova 1-6 and 0-6. Nadin Olsson fell to Alexandra McDonald in the third position, 3-6 and 3-6.

Playing in the fourth court, Jennyfer Vivas fell to Victoria Khatcei 0-6, and 1-6. Nicole Ashiedu dropped the fifth position to Intissar Rassif in straight sets, 0-6 and 1-6. Rounding out the singles actions, Tiffany Williams fell to Dakota Brown 0-6 and 0-6.

Savannah State drops to 5-15 overall and 1-5 in the MEAC, while S.C. State improves to 7-5 and 4-1 in conference.

The Lady Tigers have two games remaining in the 2014 regular season. SSU takes on Benedict College on April 4, and in their final MEAC game will play The University of Maryland Eastern Shore on April 5.
