Box Score DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.- Savannah State went the final five minutes without a field goal but hung on to defeat Bethune-Cookman 50-40 before a crowd of 1,075 in Moore Gymnasium.

The win halted a two-game losing streak by the Tigers as they improved to 8-14 overall and 6-2 in conference play.

Alante Fenner came off the bench to lead SSU with a career-high 18 points. The Lake Wales, Florida native, who had several family members in the stands, made 7 of 10 shots from the field and connect on 3 of 5 of his 3-point attempts.

The game, which had nine lead changes, saw Bethune lead 17-12 with 7:47 left in the first half but Savannah State strung together a 9-2 run to take a 21-19 lead with 3:11 left in the period.

After a 3-pointer by Troy Simmons gave the Wildcats a 22-21 edge with 2:10 remaining, SSU finished the half with a 3-pointer by
Jeremiah Hill and a layup by
Terel Hall to take a 26-22 lead into intermission.

Malik Jackson made a trio of 3-pointers for Cookman as they turned their halftime deficit into a five point advantage with a 11-2 spurt with 14:17 on the clock.

With the score knotted at 35 with 11:24 left, the Tigers handcuffed their opponents with a 15-2 run. By the time the run was over, only 37 seconds was left in regulation and it was too late for a Cookman comeback.

Savannah State shot 56.3 percent from the floor in the second half and 48.6 percent for the game. The Tigers also won the rebounding battle in the low-scoring affair, 27 to 21.

Joshua Montgomery came off the bench to add 10 points and 5 rebounds for SSU.
