Tiger Bites
- The Tigers and Bison will meet for the 8th time with Howard leading the series, 7-0. SSU is winless against the Bison in seven tries with the series beginning in 2003.

- SSU linebacker Marquis Smith suffered a leg injury in the game against S.C. State and is not expected to play in today's game. Smith is currently fourth nationally and 2nd in the MEAC in tackles for loss averaging 2.1 per game; 12th nationally and 3rd in the MEAC in sacks averaging 1.00 per game; and he is 11th nationally and 2nd in the conference in forced fumbles, averaging .38 per game.

- SSU's "Air-Raid" offense has the Tigers currently ranked 6th in the conference in passing offense averaging 163.8 yards per game.

- SSU is tied for second in the MEAC with South Carolina State in interceptions with 11 and third in the conference in punt returns with a 15.1 yard average.

- After the first nine games, the Tigers have already surpassed their 2013 season totals in several defensive categories: SSU has eleven interceptions compared to eight a year ago; has forced 12 fumbles compared to six last season; has 11 fumble recoveries compared to six last year and has 18 sacks compared to 13 a year ago.

-Last week the SSU defense had their best game of the season, holding South Carolina State to 264 yards of offense.

- After Howard's win over Delaware State last week, Savannah State became the only winless MEAC team in conference play. The Tigers have two chances remaining to get their first win as they host Howard today and N.C. A&T next week.

- Michael Wallace was promoted to defensive coordinator prior to preseason camp. Wallace was the Tigers defensive coordinator from 1995-97.

 - Junior wide out Cantrell Frazier has accounted for four of the 13 offensive touchdowns for the Tigers this season. The Fulton County, Ga. native has caught three touchdowns and ran for one.

The Game
Savannah State

A major part of Savannah State's game plan Saturday will be trying to stop Howard University quarterback Greg McGhee.

SSU (0-9 overall, 0-6 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) will play Howard (2-7, 1-5 MEAC) at 6 p.m. at T.A. Wright Stadium. The game will be radio-broadcast on WHCJ 90.3 FM.

SSU players, coaches and fans likely remember McGhee. Last season, he accounted for 474 total yards and four touchdowns to lead the Bison to a 42-14 victory in Washington, D.C. McGhee was 26-of-37 passing for 326 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. He ran for 148 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries.

McGhee, a 6-foot-3, 210-pound senior from Pittsburgh, Pa., is 159-of-295 passing (53.9 percent) for 1,697 yards and 10 touchdowns. He has been intercepted six times. McGhee also is Howard's leading rusher with 621 yards and nine touchdowns on 129 carries.

The Bison are coming off a 17-10 victory over Delaware State last Saturday in Washington, D.C. Howard snapped a five-game losing streak with the win.

SSU, which is 0-7 in the series against Howard, is coming off a 59-7 loss to South Carolina State last Saturday in Orangeburg, S.C.

LEON PRUNTY OR TINO SMITH AT QB?
Wilson said he does not know if SSU's starting quarterback against Howard will be Leon Prunty or Tino Smith.

"That's going to be an end-of-the-week decision," he said. "I've got to figure out which one has been more stable (in practices this week). I need a quarterback that can throw. I need a running back that can run. And I need receivers that can catch. And linemen that can block. When I get that then I know I can do variations of everything else. That's what I'm looking to develop."

Howard University
McGhee's favorite target is wide receiver Matthew Colvin, a 6-foot-1, 175-pound junior from Greensboro, N.C., who has made 30 catches for 491 yards.

Running back William Parker, a 6-foot, 210-pound junior from Stone Mountain, Ga., has run 89 times for 394 yards and four touchdowns. Against Delaware State, he ran for 151 yards on 29 carries.

"They've got a top-notch running back who, I think, ran for a career high last week," Wilson said. "He's running his best."

Linebacker Devin Rollins, a 5-foot-11, 240-pound junior from Miami, Fla., has made a team-high 88 tackles, including three sacks.

"They've got a great defensive coordinator (Rayford Petty) who's been around a long time. He kept Delaware State, which is explosive, to just 10 points last week so we're going to have to be up on our toes."
