Michael Wallace

Michael Wallace returns home to Savannah State joining the new staff at SSU as the assistant head coach, outside linebackers coach and special teams coach.

Wallace was a four year letterman for SSU from 1986-1989 as a defensive starter under legendary coach Bill Davis. He played alongside Pro Football Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe. Wallace and Sharpe were a part of the 1989 team that went 8-1, the best overall record in over 100 years of football at Savannah State.  

Wallace joined the coaching staff at Savannah State under Davis in 1990.  He coached the Tigers in several different capacities over the next eight years. Wallace was a defensive coordinator/defensive backs coach, and offensive coordinator. In 2000, he rejoined the staff as an assistant head coach/offensive coordinator and in 2002 took over as interim head coach for SSU after the passing of Davis. Wallace also coached men’s track and field in 1992 to 1997.

Wallace comes back to Savannah State from Benedict College, where he has served as the safeties coach since 2012. Prior to Benedict, Wallace was the offensive line coach at Lane College beginning in 2010.

In 2009-10, Wallace worked as the defensive line coach at South Effingham County High School in Georgia. After leaving SSU in 2002, Wallace coached the offensive line at Morris Brown College in the 2002-03 season. In the 2006-07 season, he served as the offensive line coach at Stillman College.

Wallace received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1991 from Savannah State. In 2010, he earned a master’s degree in Public Administration, also from Savannah State.
