Tigers Unveil Fall Football Training Camp Schedule

SAVANNAH, Ga.- It's a new day on the Marsh with a new team, a new leader and a new plan.

Under the direction of new head football coach Thomas Howard, the Savannah State University football team will report to fall camp on August 3 as they prepare for the 2026 season.

SSU will have 26 days from the time they report to campus to prepare to face FCS foe South Carolina State University on August 29 at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium at 6:00 p.m. The contest will be the season opener for both teams.

SSU will have 15 practices during the preseason, leading up to game week, including two scrimmages.

The first two days of preseason camp will involve the players checking into their residence halls and team meetings.

The first two practices on Aug. 5 & 6 will be in helmets while the following two practices on Aug. 7 & 8 will be in shells.

On Aug. 9, the team will attend at Southside Baptist Church.

The Tigers will be in full pads on Aug. 10-12 and back in shells on Aug. 13 & 14 and will have their first scrimmage of the preseason on Saturday, August 15 at 8 a.m at T.A, Wright Stadium.

On Aug. 16, the squad will worship together at St. Phillip African Methodist Episcopal Church.

Classes at the university start on Aug. 17 and the next scrimmage will be on Wednesday, Aug. 19 at 6:30 a.m.

The team will practice in shells on Aug. 20-22 and will attend First Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church on Aug. 23.

Players will have academic meetings meet with their position coach on Aug. 24 and normal game week practices will take place Tuesday thru Thursday with a walk thru on Friday.

Practices are open to the public.

Savannah State will play five home games this season.
