SSU Women’s Tennis To Honor Seniors

SAVANNAH, Ga. – On Tuesday, April 2, the Savannah State women's tennis team will honor three seniors prior to playing their final game of the regular season on the brand new Tiger Tennis Courts in Savannah at 2 p.m.

Before the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) match up with rival Bethune-Cookman, the Lady Tigers will have ceremonies honoring seniors Esmira Gheisary, Sandra Kristjansdottir, and Davita Washington.

Gheisary, an Almaty, Kazakhstan native, will play her final game as a Lady Tiger on Tuesday, after transferring to SSU from Eastern Kentucky University in the 2012 season.

She has anchored the number two courts for SSU over the last two years. Gheisary finished her first season with a 5-10 overall record, garnering big MEAC wins against Maryland Eastern Shore and Coppin State. Gheisary had several big wins this year. The most notable was a tie-breaking win over North Carolina A&T's Victorea Austin.

Gheisary will graduate with a degree in Business Management and is looking to earn a Master's Degree in Business.

The Lady Tigers will lose a major asset in first court player, Kristjansdottir. The Kopavogur, Iceland native is graduating a year early as a junior. Kristjansdottir helmed the number one courts in 2012 earning MEAC wins against Maryland Eastern Shore, Coppin State and Norfolk State.

Kristjansdottir has led the Lady Tigers in two wins this season against Albany State University. She is graduating with a degree in Biology and plans to attend Medical School en route to a career as a Pediatric Surgeon.

Washington, an Atlanta, Georgia native has held down the six court for SSU over the last two years. She shared the team's longest win streak record for singles play in 2012, with three straight wins. She downed North Carolina Central's Julia Augilar in straight sets in a MEAC win last year.

In her final season as a Lady Tiger, Washington picked up two wins against Albany State, beating her opponents in straight sets both times.

She is graduating with a degree in English and plans to attend Law School to be an Entertainment Lawyer.

Head coach Don Andrews will address each senior and present them with an award prior to the match.
