ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – The Savannah State men's and women's golf teams opened the spring season with the Gary Freeman Invitational, hosted by Bethune-Cookman University in Ormond Beach, Florida this weekend.
The Tigers finished in seventh place with a three-day total team score of 958 (318, 316, 324). Leading the Tigers, tied for 17th, was Brandon Neals with a three-day total of 232 (74, 75, 83).
Travis Roe finished with a score of 236 (76, 82, 78). Scott Rogers and Caleb Simmons closed out the invite with a 245. William Proulx rounded out the Tigers with a 274.
Florida Atlantic won the Invitational with a three-day total score of 894, followed by the host Wildcats (903). In all, 12 teams participated in the 72-Par event at the Halifax Plantation Golf Club. Bethune-Cookman's Ryan Fricker captured medalist honors with a score of 217 (74, 67, 76).
The Lady Tigers finished sixth in the tournament with a team score of 761 (385, 376). SSU was led by
Jocelyn Williams (175), followed by
Michelle Gifford (183).
Candace Lewis finished with a 193, followed by
Courtney Newton, who recorded a 210.
Bianca Anderson rounded out SSU with a 218.
Bethune-Cookman finished first on the women's side with a team score of 639. Lady Wildcat Patrizia Trevisan captured medalist honors with a two-day total score of 145 (72-73).
The Tigers return to action March 6 at the Wittenburg Invitational in Jacksonville, Florida. The Lady Tigers will compete in the Taylor Made – Adidas Intercollegiate Invitational in Dataw Island, South Carolina, March 10.
