Preston Blackman hit a jumper with 28 seconds left and Savannah State held on to defeat Florida A&M 57-55 in Tiger Arena.
The crowd of 1,923 saw the Tigers recover from a eight point deficit with 11:15 remaining to win their fourth straight game.
The contest was knotted at 36 at the 15:07 mark but FAMU (4-10, 1-3) put together a 11-3 run to go ahead 47-39.
The Tigers answered with a 14-2 spurt that gave the home team a 53-49 lead with 3:35 on the clock.
A pair of free throws by Reggie Lewis and a layup from Jamie Adams allowed the Rattlers to tie the game at 53 with 3:08 left.
SSU (8-9, 3-1) took a 55-53 lead on a
Arnold Louis layup with 2:22 left but FAMU tied the game at 55 when Trey Kellum made a layup with 44 seconds remaining.
After a 30 second timeout by SSU, Louis attempted a shot but it was blocked by FAMU's Oneyekachukwu Odi. The missed shot bounced SSU's way and Blackman hit the game winning jumper.
After a Rattler timeout, Lewis, who had 13 points, missed a 3-pointer and
Robert Burger grabbed the rebound for the Tigers.
Blackman had 14 points and four assists for SSU while Louis came off the bench to score 11 points and grab eight rebounds.
Rashad Hassan added 10 points and seven rebounds for the Tigers.
SSU shot 41.8 percent from the field but 47.4 percent from the free throw line and just 22.2 percent on 3-point attempts.
The Tigers out-rebounded FAMU 39 to 25.
SSU's reserves out-scored the Florida A&M bench 22-5.
The first half, which ended tied at 29, saw the Rattlers lead by as many as nine points with 4:24 left before Savannah State rallied to end the period with the final nine points.
Louis got the rally started with a layup.
Patrick Hendley followed with a 3-pointer and a jumper while Hassan made a layup with 53 seconds left.
Adams led FAMU with a game-high 18 points. Adams made 4 of 7 3-point shots. The Rattlers shot 44.4 percent from the field.
The game had nine ties and seven lead changes.
