SAVANNAH, Ga.-
Arnold Louis came off the bench to post his fourth straight double-double and lead Savannah State to a 55-49 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in Tiger Arena.
The crowd of 1,445 saw Louis score 12 points and pull down 11 rebounds as the Tigers improved to 10-1 at home.
The Islanders (4-19) led 4-2 but SSU answered with a 13 straight points to go ahead 15-4 with 12 minutes left in the first half.
A dunk by Nate Maxey followed by back to back 3-pointers by Hameed Ali and Terence Jones pulled A&M within 15-12 at the 8:22 mark but Savannah State's defense held the visitors to one field goal the rest of the half.
SSU led 24-15 at intermission.
A layup by
Rashad Hassan gave the Tigers (14-10) a 11 point lead to open the second half but A&M rallied with a 16-3 run to take a 31-29 edge with 12:44 remaining.
With the game knotted at 33 with 9:59 left, the Tigers used a 13-4 spurt to go ahead 46-37 with 2:14 on the clock.
The Islanders closed their gap to six but SSU made seven free throws in the last 49 seconds to seal the win.
Hassan and
Joshua Montgomery each scored 10 points for SSU who out-rebounded A&M 43 to 36.
Myron Demsey led the Islanders with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
