Lady Tigers fall to Florida A&M

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah State Lady Tigers came within five points of beating the Florida A&M Lady Rattlers on January 14.  The story was not the same in the team's second meeting of the season, Saturday, at Tiger Arena as Florida A&M dropped the Lady Tigers 58-45 in front of 600 fans.

Florida A&M jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead in the first two minutes. Savannah State quickly tied the game with a 7-0 run ignited by a layup from Jasmine Kirkland.

Kirkland hit a short jumper at the 16:13 mark to tie the game at 7. Jasmine Grice answered with 2-points of her own giving the visitors a lead they never gave up. 

Later in the first half the Lady Rattlers extended their cushion by 13 on a jump shot by Tameka McKelton. Florida A&M continued the push in the second half taking a 19 point lead 8 minutes in on a good free-throw from Keturah Martin.

Antonia Bennett, and Qiana Donald both ended with a double-double. Bennett had 14 points and 13 rebounds, while Donald had 12 points and 13 rebounds. McKelton added 11 points.
Ezinne Kalu led the Lady Tigers with 14 points. Jasmine Norman followed with 11 points. Kirkland added 7 points.

Senior post Alisha Nelson returned to action for the Lady Tigers after missing eight games with concussion symptoms. She scored 2 points and caught 4 rebounds. Nelson leads the team in rebound percentage with 7.4 a game.
