Box Score SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State shot 54.5 percent from the field as they opened the 2012-13 season with a 84-62 win over Trinity Baptist in Tiger Arena, before a crowd of 1,388.
The Tigers shot 59.3 percent from the floor in the opening period and made half of their 28 shots in the second half.
SSU scored the first seven points of the contest and held the Eagles without a field goal until Darrius Jones made a layup with 13 minutes left in the first half.
Less than five minutes into the game, Savannah State held a 16-1 lead.
Trinity would fight back and trim the Tigers lead to 28-21 with 6:13 on the clock.

Stephen Wilson and
Preston Blackman would give SSU some breathing room and a 34-21 lead with 5:01 left.
A layup by Chris Spears would put SSU ahead by 14 but Trinity would go into the half trailing 42-32.
Trinity would whittle their deficit to 46-39 early in the second period but a 12-3 run by Savannah State (1-0) but put the home up 58-42 at the 13:50 mark.
SSU led 64-46 with 11:41 left and 70-55 with 6:40 on the clock.
A 14-4 run gave Savannah State their biggest lead of the game at 84-59 with 11 seconds remaining.
The Tigers, who out-rebounded Trinity 43 to 20, were led by
Rashad Hassan's 17 points. Wilson and
Patrick Hendley each scored 10 and
Jyles Smith grabbed 11 rebounds to go with his eight points and three blocks.
SSU made 17 turnovers while the Eagles committed 14.
Trinity (4-1) were led by Xavier Perkins who had 15 points, six steals, five rebounds and four assists.
