Tigers Explode Past Trinity Baptist

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Rashad Hassan and Arnold Louis both had double-doubles as Savannah State defeated Trinity Baptist 86-56 in Tiger Arena.
 
The crowd of 1,070 saw Hassan score 19 points and grab 10 rebounds while Louis added 15 points and 11 rebounds.
 
Deric Rudolph led the Tigers by scoring 12 of his 20 points in the second half.
 
Trinity (11-9) trailed by 22 points with 14:30 left in the game but rallied to slice their deficit to 57-44 with 7:38 on the clock.
 
SSU answered with a 25-4 run to go ahead 82-48 with 2:47 remaining.
 
The non-conference victory improves the Tigers home record to 9-1 and bumped their overall record to 12-10.
 
Trinity's Corey Ruth led all scorers with 26 points.
 
Savannah State scored the first six points of the contest and SSU led 20-7 with 11:10 left in the opening period.
 
Trinity closed their gap to 22-15 at the 8:56 mark but the Tigers responded to close the half with a 20-7 run and take a 42-22 lead into the break.
 
The Tigers shot 47.1 percent from the floor in the second half and 41.4 percent for the game and out-rebounded the visitors from Jacksonville, Florida 46 to 28.
 
Trinity shot 58.8 percent from the floor in the second period and 58.3 percent from 3-point range for the game but made 29 turnovers.
 
Preston Blackmon dished out nine assists for Savannah State.
