ROCK HILL, S.C.- Savannah State won five events at the Carolinas Cup Track & Field Meet hosted by Winthrop at Irwin Bell Track.

Both the SSU men and women placed fifth in the competition with the men getting 69 points and the women scoring 97 points.

Gardner-Webb won the women's division with 121 points while Radford captured the men's side with 153 points.

The Savannah State women won three events while the men won two.

Amara Jones finished first in the women's 200m with a time of 23.77, the women's 4x400m relay team (Aleah Hordges, Jazy Seay-Blane, Amber Hughes and Jones) won their event with a time of 3:49.26 and Hughes captured the triple jump with a leap of 12.22m.

Eric Plump won two events for the Tigers in the 100m and 200m races. The Columbus, Georgia native was timed at 10.56 in the 100m and 21.30 in the 200m.

For the SSU women, Demery Craig (12.52) was 2nd in the 100m, Kendra Carter (12.76) was 4th and Nakisha Thompson (12.84) was 6th. In the 200m, Craig (26.25) was 6th and Carter (26.82) was 9th. In the 400m race, Hordges (56.49) was 2nd, Seay-Blane (57.10) was 4th and Bridgette Brown (1:00.48) was 9th. Dominique Givance (2:23.27) was 4th in the 800m race.

In the 100m hurdles, Thompson (14.98) was 4th and Monique Harrison (15.43) was 6th. Alisha Nelson (1.60m) was 2nd in the high jump. Sharonda Redfield (5.43m) was 2nd in the long jump while Camia Weems (5.20m) was 4th. Redfield (12.03m) was 2nd in the triple jump. Ebony Griggs was 8th in the shot put (8.64m and 4th in the discus (25.98m).

In the men's division, Darrius Baker was 6th in the 100m (11.08) and 3rd in the 200m (21.84) while Chaz Price (49.50) was 3rd in the 400m. In the 800m, Tyrone McCoy (1:52.84) was 3rd and Etchien Assinzo (1:56.70) was 4th while in the 1500m race Isreal-McBee (4:10.91) was 5th, Kris Ballou (4:19.26) was 7th and Darius Thorton (5:01.36) was 10th.

In the 110m hurdles, Quentre Shannon (15.50) was 5th and Anthony Jarvis (15.87) was 7th. In the 400m hurdles, Felton Chinn (55.15) was 3rd, Darnell Brown (56.31) was 5th and Jarvis (56.42) was 7th. The 4x400m relay team (Price, Assinzo, Chinn and Brown) was 2nd with a time of 3:17.95.Shawn Sovnenir (6.93m) was 4th in the long jump and Melvin Winfrey (5.79m) was 9th. In the triple jump, Sovnenir (13.92m) was 5th and Winfrey (11.62m) placed 7th.
