SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State shot 53.6 percent from the field as they rolled to a 84-24 victory over Trinity Baptist before 733 fans in Tiger Arena.
The Tigers won for the 7th time in 8 games and improved overall to 9-18.
Jovonni Shuler had 18 points, 8 rebounds and 3 steals for SSU while
Cedric Smith came off the bench to get 14 points and 7 rebounds. Preston Blackmon added 10 points and 4 assists.
All 11 SSU players who dressed for the game saw action and scored at least two points.
Savannah State jumped out to a 37-6 lead and never took their foot off the gas.
In the opening half, the Tigers had runs of 6-0, 11-0, 12-0 and 9-0.
SSU shot 58.8 percent from the floor in the opening half and led 43-11 at the break.
The second period went pretty much the same as the first with Savannah State stringing together runs of 12-0, 9-0 and 10-0.
Ahead 63-20 with 11:49 remaining, the Tigers scored nine striaght points as they ended the game with a 21-4 run over Trinity.
The Eagles (17-10) were led by Tyler McNulty's nine points and five rebounds.
SSU won the battle of the boards, 57 to 29.
Trinity was held to 15 percent shooting from the field.
Neither team impressed anyone from the free throw line.
The Eagles shot 57.1 percent while Savannah State shot 50 percent.
