SAVANNHA, Ga. – Lamonte J. Massie was named the assistant athletics director of team operations at Savannah State University.
As an assistant athletic director, he will be responsible for providing support to all 15 athletic programs, including but not limited to game-day operations, recruiting efforts, budget maintenance, and administrative support.
Before joining the Savannah State family, Massie served two years as the athletics director and the head football coach at Livingstone College, in Salisbury, North Carolina.
Prior, from 2000-2007, he served as the head football coach and offensive coordinator at Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, Fla.
From 2005-2007 Massie served as the commissioner of the South Eastern Athletic Conference. During that time he helped implement their strategic plan, provided leadership with the budget, marketing proposals, compliance, and daily administrative operations for the entire conference.
Overall he has over 17 years of combined working experience in athletics administration.
Massie, in 2006, retired as a captain from the US Army Reserve after 22 years of enlisted and commissioned service
In 1991 he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in physics from Tuskegee University, in Tuskegee, Alabama. A native of Syracuse, New York, Massie is married to Felicia A. Massie, and together they have two children Erika, 14 and Jamel , 12.
