Ten Inducted Into SSU Athletic Hall of Fame

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State University welcomed ten new members into the Athletic Hall of Fame in a banquet held in Tiger Arena.

It was the first induction ceremony for the Savannah State Hall of Fame since 1974.

Being inducted were:

Lee Blitch, baseball and football player (1974-78); Orlando Dean, football player (1989-92); Douglas Grant, football player (1990-92); Casey Grigley, football player (1984-86); Frankie Harper, football, basketball and baseball player (1968-72); Mabel Sanders Heath, women's basketball player (1988-92); Leo Richardson, coach (1964-71); Shannon Sharpe, football player (1986-89); Tim Walker, football player (1976-80); and Theodore A. "Ted" Wright, coach (1947-62).

Grigley and Sharpe were unable to attend. Former SSU head football coach Frank Ellis, Jr. accepted on behalf of Grigley and William Hall, Sharpe's high school football and track coach, accepted on behalf of Sharpe.

Each inductee received a placque.

Former SSU interim president Dr. Julius Scott was the keynote speaker and Marilynn Suggs, SSU interim athletics director, served as mistress of ceremony.
