Lady Tigers Lose To Longwood

SAVANNAH, Ga.- Savannah State shot 27.5 percent from the field and made 27 turnovers in a 60-36 loss to Longwood at Tiger Arena.

SSU got off to a slow start, falling behind 8-0 and trailed 20-9 with 4:24 remaining in the first half.

Two free throws by Crissa Jackson and a jumper by Mattisha Mangum pulled SSU with seven with 3:35 left but Savannah State went into the half down 28-15.

It took the Lady Tigers to score their first points of the second half.

Longwood led by 18 points after ten minutes of play but SSU battled back to cut their deficit to 48-36 with 4:50 remaining after a layup by Jackson.

That would be SSU's last points as the Lancers ended the game with a 12-0 run.

Ashlee Barley came off the bench to score eight points for SSU (9-20) while Mangum added seven. Mangum and Alicia Nelson had five rebounds each.

Longwood (8-18) had three players in double figures with Crystal Smith leading the way with 16 points.

SSU made 7-of-8 free throw attempts while Longwood went 17-of-25 from the free throw line.
