Longwood Defeats Savannah State Women

FARMVILLE, Va.- Savannah State fell to 9-19 on the season after suffering a 79-48 loss to Longwood at Willett Hall before a crowd of 350.

Freshman guard Mattisha Mangum came off the bench to score 14 points for SSU.

Longwood raced out to a 23-9 lead and never looked back.

A layup by Crissa Jackson cut Savannah State's deficit to 12 points with 10:07 remaining but the Lancers finished the half with a 10-3 run and led 33-14 at intermission.

SSU trailed by 18 early in the second half but a 11-2 run by Longwood put the Lancers ahead 45-18 with 16:09 on the clock.

The Lady Tigers sliced their deficit to 46-26 with a mini run with 13:18 remaining.

Ahead 53-33, Longwood used a 16-4 rally to go ahead 69-37 with 4:34 left. Savannah State could get no closer than 29 the rest of the way.

Longwood (7-17) was led by Brittanni Billups who had 18 points and 17 rebounds. Chelesa Coward also had 18 points.

Mangum and Jackson had five rebounds each for SSU.
