BLOOMINGTON, Ind.- Verdell Jones led four Indiana players in double figures with a game-high 18 points as the Hoosiers defeated Savannah State 79-57 in Assembly Hall.
With the score tied at 12, Indiana went on a 10-0 run to go ahead 22-12 with 11:01 left in the first half.
SSU trailed 31-24 with 6:26 remaining after a
Joshua Montgomery layup but Indiana finished the half with a 13-4 run to take a 44-28 edge into the locker room.
The Hoosiers used a 8-0 early in the second period to grab a 52-30 advantage and led by 24 with 12:12 on the clock.
With 2:48 remaining the Tigers trialed 77-49 but were able to outscore Indiana 8-2 the rest of the way.
Montgomery led SSU (1-9) with 15 points and five rebounds while Preston Blackmon added 14 points and five steals.
SSU shot 32.7 percent from the floor but made 16 of 17 free throw attempts.
Indiana improved to 7-1 while making 55.3 percent of their shots from the floor.
