Jovonni Shuler scored a career-high 32 points but it would not be enough as Savannah State would fall 69-64 to Stetson in the Edmunds Center.
The crowd of 917 saw the fifth-year senior make 11 of 20 field goals and 8 of 10 free throws. He also had seven rebounds and a pair of steals.
Savannah State led 29-26 at the half and held the Hatters without a field goal the final 4:38 of the game.
The first half featured five ties. SSU led by five points after four minutes of action.
With the score knotted at 14, Stetson reeled off a 8-2 run to go ahead 22-16 with 5:15 on the clock but the Tigers rallied to tie the game at 24 with 2:24 remaining.
SSU led 41-37 with 13:57 left in the game but Stetson put together a 22-7 run to take a 59-48 lead with 3:31 remaining.
The Tigers out-scored Stetson 7-1 to get within five with 2:01 left but free throws by three different Stetson players gave the home team a nine point edge with 45 seconds on the clock.
SSU (1-7) received 16 points and seven assists from Preston Blackmon and eight rebounds from
Jyles Smith.
The Tigers shot 46.4 percent from the floor in the first half and 45.3 percent for the game.
Aaron Graham led four Stetson players in double figures with 16 points. The Hatters (2-3) shot 75 percent from the floor in the second period as well as 80 percent from 3-point range.
